Muriel BUTHIER-CHARTRAIN
is born in 1961 in France where She always resides. She paints, mainly in watercolor, since 1981. She is a full time professional painter and a watercolour teacher.
She wrote : « Painting is the work of a whole life, it’s an integral part of the life of the painter. If I would be able to speak to the young 20 years old woman I was when I began, I would say to her that I am very proud of our artistic independance and of our artistic path » :
– More than 50 solo exhibitions, in France, but also several times in Sweden and in Australia
– Her work has been presented and awarded in numerous collective exhibitions (almost 200) , being invited or selected for international shows in France, in Europe (Belgium, Sweden, Spain, Italy, Germany, Greece, Lithuania, Slovenia) and othe parts of the world as China, Canada, Chile and Australia where She has been invited for an artistic residency.

Artistic approach :
« I paint my silences : the long, short, necessary, those that hurt, clam or anguish, those that question or amaze, I paint what I conceal… I paint with the salt water of my soul »
The paintings that I chose for this application are from « Musician angels » series. If a part of my paintings are inspired of landscapes that I want to express the essence and the soul, the principal approach of my work is based on the expression of my inner landscapes born from my emotions.
So when once asked me to work on the theme « Musician angels » I immediatly have been enchan- ted. I chose to paint the immaterial angels, the good angels : lightness, softness, immateriality, goodwill, protection under their wings deployments…
I thought that « Musician angels » is a pleonasm as I am feeling that all the angels are musicians. They exist in all religions and I wish they could be the solutions for peace in the world ! Let the an- gels play their beautiful music !
Technique approach :
In 2012, I begun to developp on paper the textures I was seeing so often on my palet because I felt that it can improve my paintings since they fit to the way I want to express. I can tell that I am a precursor in that technique, unusual, inexistant in watercolor at this time even if they became very fashion yets in watercolor at this time even if they became very fashion yet (especially with black iron oxyd that I don’t use myself). Increasing the mastery of the technic allows me now to support and improve my aritistic approach. After having worked on dark blue and brown at the beginning, I can now use these textures in all colours of the chromatic circle. That allows me to have no limits to respond to my intentions.
